My everything

On the day Hannah is finally going to tell her husband she’s leaving him, he has a stroke…and life changes in an instant.

My attention was initially caught by the subject matter; what a dilemma for someone to be in. As soon as I read the opening line “Hannah wakes up with a piece of toast stuck to her face.”, I knew this was going to be a captivating book.

This is Katie Marsh’s debut novel, but you wouldn’t think it, she writes like a much more established author. The serious and thought provoking subject matter is dealt with in a light hearted and warm way, without belittling the seriousness of a stroke. Her characters are ones that you really care about, and you feel for them all, and want to know what will happen to them.

The story is told from both Hannah and Tom’s perspective, and it’s interesting to see how events affect them. It goes back and forth between the present day and the past, starting from when they met, and I found myself really wanting to know how they went from being a young couple in love, to Hannah being on the verge of leaving him.

Overall, a lovely and beautifully written book, highly recommended.

MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
