The Purrfect Pet-sitter by Carol Thomas

Introducing Lisa Blake, the purrfect pet sitter! When Lisa Blake’s life in London falls apart, she returns to her hometown rebranding herself as ‘the purrfect pet sitter’ – which may or may not be false advertising as she has a rather unfortunate habit of (temporarily) losing dogs! But being back where she grew up, Lisa can’t escape her past. There’s her estranged best friend Flick who she bumps into in an embarrassing encounter in a local supermarket. And her first love, Nathan Baker, who, considering their history, is sure to be even more surprised by her drunken Facebook friend request than Lisa is. As she becomes involved in the lives of her old friends Lisa must confront the hurt she has caused, discover the truth about her mysterious leather-clad admirer, and learn how to move forward when the things she wants most are affected by the decisions of her past.

MY REVIEW:

This book was a pleasure to read. It took me a while to get to know Lisa, the main character, who seemed to be a bit of a scatter-brain. But once I did, I enjoyed getting to know her story.

The story is told from both Lisa, and her friend Flick’s, point of view, and it was nice to get an insight into both of them. Flick is a really busy mum, with four small children, and her life is pretty hectic. They were both best friends growing up, but they lost touch with each other, and I was intrigued to find out what caused this, and to see if they could heal this rift.

She meets her childhood sweetheart, Nathan, after sending him a friend request following one too many sherries (the only alcohol she could find in her parent’s house!), and a will-they, won’t-they scenario begins.

As Lisa returns to her childhood home, and begins to reconnect with her old friends and her family, we find out what happened to her.

There are plenty of laughs in this book, and a host of great characters. I particularly liked Winnie and Dom, and Jack, the Labrador.

A lovely, light-hearted read, very enjoyable. Thanks to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the chance to be part of the blog tour.
