The Girlfriend by K.L. Slater

I’m delighted to tell you about this gripping book today. Thanks so much to Bookouture for the copy of the book and invitation to be part of the tour.

Book Description:

My husband’s dead. She’s at my door. She owns my home…

The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her buttery blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms.

As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts.

She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I know this will be hard to hear. But I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.’

My world implodes. And then she tells me that she owns our home – and that she’s not going anywhere…

An utterly gripping psychological thriller from the number one bestselling author of The Marriage. If you like Gone GirlThe Girl on the Train and Lisa Jewell then you will be hooked by The Girlfriend.

My Review:

What a very clever plot this book has! Jennifer suffers a terrible shock when her husband Cole dies suddenly, but then in the midst of her grief Sara appears. She has been having an affair with her husband and owns the family home and all the assets.

Jennifer is completely stuck and has to let Sara move in, and I found myself feeling for her as Sara takes over everything. The poor children are also affected by it all, and I really liked the development of Miller’s character.

This is a book full of twists and turns, and it really kept me guessing. The tension and suspense are palpable throughout. I particularly enjoyed the way we got pieces of plot from several characters, interspersed with snippets from the police investigation.

A complete page-turner, I’d really recommend sitting down and getting completely stuck into this one.

My Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.
