The Nurse by Claire Allan

I’m delighted to be able to tell you about this stunning new thriller, out on March 17th. Thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books for the advance copy.

Someone is watching her. She just doesn’t know it yet.

Nell Sweeney has led an ordinary life. Every day she walks to and from the hospital where she works as a nurse, believing that no harm can befall her.

Until one day she is taken.

Because someone out there has a secret. Someone out there has been watching Nell – and they’ve been watching others like her too.

Nell is the unlucky one – she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And if she isn’t found soon, someone will make sure that she isn’t the last woman to disappear…

A chilling, gripping read, perfect for fans of Clare Mackintosh and Gillian McAllister.

My Review:

Oh my God, where do I even start with this book? This book is everything a thriller should be, pacey, gripping and unputdownable, but even more than that, it’s terrifying, simply because it feels so real, and because it feels so very plausible.

The story is told from several points of view, Nell’s mum Marian, Nell herself, and an unknown male. It’s difficult to say too much without spoiling the plot, but reading about the male character, and the sort of underground things that he’s involved with on the dark web, it feels scarily real, and the author’s note at the end of the book confirms that she has indeed researched this area, and that there are some really shocking movements out there.

I found this book to be dark and disturbing, but an absolutely gripping read. Definitely one of my top chilling and addictive books of this year so far.

My Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.
