That’s what he wants you to think…
A good mother doesn’t forget things.
A good mother isn’t a danger to herself.
A good mother isn’t a danger to her baby.
You want to be the good mother you dreamed you could be.
But you’re not. You’re the bad mother you were destined to become.
At least, that what he wants you to believe…
MY REVIEW:
Goodness, this is such a tense, gripping book.
I always love Amanda Brooke’s books, but this one is the best so far.
Without giving too much away, Lucy’s seemingly perfect husband is an excellent manipulator. If you’ve heard of the term gaslighting, this will explain it. It’s a fascinating and disturbing topic.
The pace of the book starts off agonisingly slowly, deliberately, as it builds up to a dramatic climax at the end. The drama at the end was so gripping, I just had to finish it the night I was reading it to see what would happen.
It can be a bit frustrating at the start to wonder how Lucy can’t see what’s going on, but that is the cleverness of these people who manipulate others. They erode the other person’s self confidence and make them doubt themselves.
Definitely one to make sure you have enough time to read obsessively until you finish it. So absorbing.
